Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

IN ETHAN WATE'S HOMETOWN THERE LIES THE DARKEST OF SECRETS...

There is a Girl.
Slowly, she pulled the hood from her head...green eyes, black hair.

Lena Duchannes

There is a Curse.
On the Sixteenth Moon, of the Sixteenth Year, the Book will take what it's been Promised.

And No One can Stop it.

IN THE END, THERE IS A GRAVE.

Lena and Ethan become bound together by a deep, powerful love. But Lena is cursed and, on her sixteenth birthday, her fate will be decided.

Ethan never saw it coming.

I was captured by this blurb at the back of the book. The last words chilled me and I knew I had to read it. and fast.

The Other Blurb however:

Ethan Wate, a high school sophomore, plans to escape his small Southern town as soon as he can. Life has been difficult since his mother died; his father, a writer, has withdrawn into his study. Then Lena Duchannes arrives, and this strange new girl is the very one who has been occupying his dreams. She and her kin are Casters, beings who have supernatural powers. Getting to know her exposes Ethan to time travel, mortal danger, and love. The teens can hardly bear to be apart, but Lena's 16th birthday, when she will be Claimed for dark or light, is only 6 months away. To save her, they fight supernatural powers and the prejudice of closed-minded people. Yet, good and evil are not clearly delineated, nor are they necessarily at odds. In the Gothic tradition of Anne Rice, the authors evoke a dark, supernatural world in a seemingly simple town obsessed with Civil War reenactments and deeply loyal to its Confederate past. The intensity of Ethan and Lena's need to be together is palpable, the detailed descriptions create a vivid, authentic world, and the allure of this story is the power of love. The satisfying conclusion is sure to lead directly into a sequel.

was not that effective. Sure, I really wanted to read the book. But there's no feeling. No sense of suspense. The first one was fantastic, everything that the book was.

Beautiful Creatures was fantastic and a different type of paranormal romance. It's a southern gothic and that adds up to its originality. It links in History, Myth and Fantasy and it's result is this: an amazing novel which every teen should read. It's romantic, it's suspenseful and it's surprising.

It's also set from a boy's perspective, which made this different as most paranormal or supernatural romances seem to be mainly focused on the female's perspective. This was a different, yet great change, as to maybe even guys would be able to read this, as to a point where most books featuring the creatures such as Vampires, Werewolves, Angels, Fairies etc. Guys wouldn't DARE touch. Sure there are some, but not too many far and in between. This book proves to be one of those very few, which adds to it's brilliance.

The second book came out a few days ago, and I cannot WAIT to get started reading that one! first, I'd better go buy one, but still. Beautiful Darkness seems as promising...

All-American Girl by Meg Cabot

10. Her big sister is the most popular girl in school
9. Her little sister is a certified genius
8. She's in love with her big sister's boyfriend
7. She got caught selling celebrity portraits in school
6. And now she's being forced to take art classes
5. She's just saved the president of the United States from an assassination attempt
4. So the whole world thinks she's a hero
3. Even though Sam knows she is far, far from being a hero
2. And now she's been appointed teen ambassador to the UN
and the number one reason Sam's life is over?
1. The president's son just might be in love with her

This was the second time (or third?) I read this book. This book is a little (just a wee bit) unrealistic...but that just makes it even more fun.
This is what many people dream about... and Meg Cabot has done it again. All-American Girl is about those who do unexpected good things...sometimes REALLY good things, and how we're acknowledged for it. But what I really liked about how Meg Cabot wrote this book, is that it captures real emotions. Sam doesn't just become one big happy person and accept all that changes in her life. She goes through a tough time, become Teen Ambassador, standing up for what she wants and what's important for herself.
This is one of Meg Cabot's finest, and it was an amazing series, with a one-of-a-kind hero that we all wish we could be.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Everybody gets to be supermodel gorgeous. What could be wrong with that?
Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can't wait. Not for her license -- for turning pretty. In Tally's world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there.
But Tally's new friend Shay isn't sure she wants to be pretty. She'd rather risk life on the outside. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world -- and it isn't very pretty. The authorities offer Tally the worst choice she can imagine: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. The choice Tally makes changes her world forever.
Uglies
was a very different perspective of our world in the future. There have been several variations as like in The Girl Who Owned the City by O.T. Nelson, all the adults were killed off by a disease and only kids survived. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, children from ages 12 to 18 had to participate in deadly games where only one survives. But this one by far was very different.

Everyone is either "Ugly" or "Pretty".

There's a separation between the two and once an 'Ugly' turns 16, they turn into a 'Pretty'. Until, Tally finds out about another group of people, who've escaped from the Pretty world. This is kinda similar as Katniss discovers about District 13 in Catching Fire.

Uglies was a different and fantastic different experience about the Post-Apocalyptic world. Can't wait to read "Pretties"!

Cammie and Macey soon find themselves trapped in a kidnappers’ plot, with only their espionage skills to save them.

As her junior year begins, Cammie can’t shake the memory of what happened in Boston, and even the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women doesn’t feel like the safe haven it once did. Shocking secrets and old flames seem to lurk around every one of the mansion’s corners as Cammie and her friends struggle to answer the questions, Who is after Macey? And how can the Gallagher Girls keep her safe?

Soon Cammie is joining Bex and Liz as Macey’s private security team on the campaign trail. The girls must use their spy training at every turn as the stakes are raised, and Cammie gets closer and closer to the shocking truth…

There. Was. Not. Much. of. Zach.

WHYY???

well other than that, this book was amazing, for the 3rd book in the Gallagher Girls series. Ally Carter has created a series which is so different from other books found today.

A Spy School for Girls.

I COULD NOT stop reading this book. I begged and begged for this book, and I loved it once I started reading it! There's also some sense of reality to it, even though, it's completely fictional. or is it??

Anyway, this book was fantastic (other than the lack of Zach in this book) and it brings on more of a deeper, darker side to Gallagher Academy. Secrets are revealed and the actions of others seem questionable.

Ally Carter's 3rd Installment of the Gallagher Girls series is AMAZING and so is the rest of the series. CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on the next book!

Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz

Within New York City’s most elite families, there lurks a secret society of celebrated Americans whose ancestors sailed on the Mayflower. They are the powerful and the wealthy—and in fact, they are not human. They are the Blue Bloods, an ancient group of vampires.
Schuyler Van Alen has never fit in at Duchesne, her prestigious New York City private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner—and happy that way.
But when she turns fifteen, Schuyler’s life changes dramatically. She has a mosaic of blue veins on her arms, and craves raw meat. The death of a popular girl from Duchesne is surrounded by a mystery that haunts her. And strangest off all, Jack Force, the most popular boy in school, is showing a sudden interest in her.
Schuyler wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?
Steeped in vampire lore and set against the glittery backdrop of New York City, Blue Bloods will be devoured by fans of Melissa de la Cruz.
I found this book gripping. It was mesmerizing, it captured me at once. It's a fantastic read, filled with romance and blood. Mostly blood.
I like how Melissa de la Cruz changed the "way" of normal vampires. It clashes mythology with history into our modern day world. The Characters were well created, and maybe that's why it was so grippy to me. It was an amazing read.
After I finished this book, I IMMEDIATELY had to go and read the next one. It was that fantastic. It's maybe also because many girls can relate to Schulyer's life. Being a loner and then suddenly accepted into something big is a hard and different change, and de la Cruz captures it and makes it something more. Fantastic, Bloody and just plain Amazing.

Nobody's Princess by Esther Friesner

She is beautiful, she is a princess, and Aphrodite is her favorite goddess, but something in Helen of Sparta just itches for more out of life. Not one to count on the gods—or her looks—to take care of her, Helen sets out to get what she wants with steely determination and a sassy attitude. That same attitude makes Helen a few enemies—such as the self-proclaimed "son of Zeus" Theseus—but it also intrigues, charms, and amuses those who become her friends, from the famed huntress Atalanta to the young priestess who is the Oracle of Delphi.

In Nobody's Princess, author Esther Friesner deftly weaves together history and myth as she takes a new look at the girl who will become Helen of Troy. The resulting story offers up adventure, humor, and a fresh and engaging heroine you cannot help but root for.

I really enjoyed this book, as it incorporated one of the things I love most, Greek Mythology. After Percy Jackson and the Olympians, all books seemed to be about Greek Mythology, i.e. The Cronus Chronicles, Oh.My.Gods, and Oracles of Delphi Keep, just to name a few. But it seemed that nothing could really compare to the richness in detail and the mythology, and history incorporated into a fictional story.

Until Now.

Yes, Nobody's Princess is not a story about modern mythology, but like Percy Jackson it had good fun, and a fast and exciting plot. It's interesting how Esther Friesner looks before Helen of Troy, before this Queen became a legend. Going back to her childhood, when she was Helen of Sparta, and how she wanted a place in the world, with not her looks, but her strength and skill.

This book was fantastic, with a whole lotta butt-kicking action, and a strong heroine. I'm definitely going to get my hands on the next book, as soon as I can find a copy as Helen's adventures continue on the search for the Golden Fleece.

Couple o' New Books!

Hey Guys, here's a few new books which came out, and I cannot WAIT to get my hands on! :D

Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen

The year is 1929. New York is ruled by the Bright Young Things: flappers and socialites seeking thrills and chasing dreams in the anything-goes era of the Roaring Twenties.
Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York's glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star. . . .
Cordelia is searching for the father she's never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It's a life anyone would kill for . . . and someone will.
The only person Cordelia can trust is Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia's brother, Charlie. But Astrid's perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.
Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the illicit speakeasies ofManhattan, and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls' fortunes will rise and fall—together and apart. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Luxe comes an epic new series set in the dizzying last summer of the Jazz Age.

The Caster Chronicles, Book 2: Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked
Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

An irresistible romance interwoven with a darkly engrossing mystery, this contemporary retelling of the beloved classic Jane Eyre promises to enchant a new generation of readers.

Blue Bloods, Book 5: Misguided Angel by Melissa de la Cruz

Well, I've got lots to look forward to, and lots to read!

MWAH! :D

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen -- and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

I found Hush, Hush a very intriguing book, one that just hooked my attention. It was beautifully written and well-plotted. I like the fact that author, Becca Fitzpatrick, took on another creature – one that's not a vampire or a werewolf or a fairy – and made something different and yet as capturing as the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer.

Fitzpatrick's style of writing WILL (be warned) capture the audience and dive right into action from the moment Patch meets Nora. Get ready for a ride that surprises and turns!

Well, I'm definitely waiting for the next book, Crescendo! I just hope that it's as enticing and amazing as the first.
